Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel Bars

Alright – I know that I usually blog about all things fashion on Tuesdays but I just can’t help but show you pictures of a delicious recipe I just tried out today!

In case you don’t already know, I’m a huge baker and if it were up to me I would never cook…and simply live on baked goods…even though I would probably die.  Fortunately for me – my fiancé also has an extra large sweet tooth, so we get used to having multiple goodies in the apartment at one time.  Baking is definitely one of those activities that I believe the benefits outweigh the costs when starting by scratch.  As much as I love boxed cake mixes, tubes of cookie dough, and prepackaged brownies – There’s nothing like the pride you get from baking your very own goodies then seeing your friends and family smile while they chow down on your creations!

I came across this recipe on Cinnamon Spice and Everything Nice and not only did these Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel Bars look absolutely irresistible, they’re also super easy to make!  Even easy enough to whip up a couple hours before heading out for an impromptu picnic in the park ❤

Here’s to a New Beginning!

Music Monday:

Have you ever wanted to just pack your bags, top off your gas tank, and leave everything behind?  I can’t say that I’ve never quite gotten to this point but I know many people who have, and of all the individuals I know who left the old behind and began their search for something new, some were successful and others ended up back in the parent’s basement a mere 2 months later.

Today is my first day not ‘on the job’ and I couldn’t be more excited to start the next chapter in my life!  I’ve definitely gotten mixed reactions after telling people that I quit my job as a glorified tele-sales rep to become a volunteer intern and pursue my dream of being a psychologist.  Some hugged me and told me how much of an inspiration I was for pursuing my passions, where others suddenly got wide-eyed and simply waited for an explanation.

I wouldn’t say that my parents have always been the most easy going of them all, but in the end they always come around and realize that I’m hard headed and I’ll live my life as I please.  Before quitting my day job, I was in constant communication with my mom about how unhappy I was in the career that I chose and that I needed out.  She completely understood because, let’s be real, pretty much all of us have been there before.  My dad – on the other hand – couldn’t sleep.

I’ve never had good two-way communication with my father because, in my opinion, we’re so much a like that we simply clash.  This morning my mom called me up, and in the warmest of tones said, “your father is completely beside himself due to the fact that you quit your job and he simply cannot sleep.”  Well, she understood my reasoning for taking the leap but my dad has always been a person that although he has made mistakes in his past he wants the best for his daughters.  This I can understand.

I also understand how hard it would be to hear that your daughter quit a job that she got right out of college and that offered decent pay and great benefits.  Aaaaand…now she wants to VOLUNTEER?!  Now she wants to go BACK to school?!  Yes, Dad.  The typical 2 years you’re supposed to have in a profession before finding a new job does not quite work when switching from corporate to non-profit.  Sales to psychology.  Furniture to well, helping people.  Even if I’m not making the big bucks at first.

On a side note: What I don’t understand is why people can’t always be happy for others.  (((Easier said than done…I know, I know)))  But it’s their life, so let them live it as they wish, and if they end up falling flat on their face don’t say you told them so.  Help them up, dust them off, then assist them by pointing them in a different direction.  If you don’t approve, feel free to voice your opinion and move on.  If you end up losing a friend over it, that’s the way things were supposed to pan out.  Everything happens for a reason, right?

When I came across the song “Better Things” by The Kinks I was so excited because the lyrics to this classic perfectly represents what I went through last week and how I felt when I woke up this morning.  When I was unhappily following the motions of my 7-4 day job I was full of doubt and sadness, but now that I’m following my dreams and starting over I’m becoming more of an optimist and having more fun already!

The Fam!

The Fam!

Have you ever picked up and started new?  How did you find support and guidance throughout your journey?

“Better Things”

Here’s wishing you the bluest sky,
And hoping something better comes tomorrow.
Hoping all the verses rhyme,
And the very best of choruses to
Follow all the doubt and sadness.
I know that better things are on the way.

Here’s hoping all the days ahead
Won’t be as bitter as the ones behind you.
Be an optimist instead,
And somehow happiness will find you.
Forget what happened yesterday,
I know that better things are on the way.

It’s really good to see you rocking out
And having fun,
Living like you just begun.
Accept your life and what it brings.
I hope tomorrow you’ll find better things.
I know tomorrow you’ll find better things.

Here’s wishing you the bluest sky,
And hoping something better comes tomorrow.
Hoping all the verses rhyme,
And the very best of choruses to
Follow all the drudge and sadness.
I know that better things are on the way.

I know you’ve got a lot of good things happening up ahead.
The past is gone it’s all been said.
So here’s to what the future brings,
I know tomorrow you’ll find better things.
I know tomorrow you’ll find better things.

Powder Pink: Top 10 for Spring

My current obsession with Powder Pink  may be due the sunny days that are (hopefully) coming our way here in Wisconsin, but it’s also one of those hues that looks fantastic on everyone!  No matter what color your skin or hair is, this wonderful shade of pink is sure to flatter.  Until recently I used to condone wearing anything but dark colors on my legs due because I’m so petite, but in my opinion, if you love the shade/cut/piece in general it’s worth the purchase!

A couple years ago when I was shopping at a mall in Poland I came across a pair of pale pink ‘skinnies’ with zippers up the ankles and I fell in love with them.  They fit like a glove, and even though I thought they made me look even shorter than my already 5′ frame, I bought them and I’m so happy that I did.

Although this shade does look great paired with other colors, I can’t resist the classic look of powder pink, black and white.  For example, the Go To Blazer from Forever 21 paired with a white crop top and those adorable black/white polka dot shorts are sure to turn heads.  In a good way!  Unfortunately, my closet it’s definitely lacking some spring staples in this shade, so powder pink is on the top of my ‘must buy color’ list for the next time I hit the shops.

If you’re not crazy about the way you look in Powder Pink (like I was at first) mix it up and buy some pink accent pillows for the home, a delicate beaded pink headband, or some awesome wedges to get with the season.  It’s such a great look for spring, so try it out!
